We are working on a new project that focuses attention on the ubiquity of “boots” and “hands” in photojournalism and visual culture more generally. The first installment is part of a post I just did on images of Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama as a contributing editor at The Bagnews.

I’m sure it’s already on your radar, but there was also, of course, all of that attention to Jim Webb’s donning of his son’s combat boots on the campaign trail. I don’t know if he’s still wearing them on the Senate floor. I was just mostly curious to hear that he had the same size feet as his son.

Hi Erik. Yes, we have a fairly large archive of Webb’s stuff … and much, much more. We aren’t fully sure what to make of it all yet, but there does seem to be some sort of visual trope that circulates around books, hands, and feet …
