If you live in the UK you will probably be aware that this is less of a ‘nod to the ironic and carnivalesque in a vibrant democratic public culture’ than the expression of a group of unpleasant bigots who are trying to manufacture discontent. Thanks for the good blog though.
Point taken. Though I think we have to acknowledge that the carnivalesque is not always anti-hegemonic and a proper visual literacy necessitates that we take that into account. And we do appreciate your pointing out the tension here.
I’m with Si on this one – thanks for the good blog, but this is an example of visual, democratic and demographic illiteracy.
