Sight Gags” is our weekly nod to the ironic and carnivalesque in a vibrant democratic public culture.  We typically will not comment beyond offering an identifying label, leaving the images to “speak” for themselves as much as possible.  Of course, we invite you to comment … and to send us images that you think capture the carnival of contemporary democratic public culture.

If you live in the UK you will probably be aware that this is less of a ‘nod to the ironic and carnivalesque in a vibrant democratic public culture’ than the expression of a group of unpleasant bigots who are trying to manufacture discontent. Thanks for the good blog though.

Point taken. Though I think we have to acknowledge that the carnivalesque is not always anti-hegemonic and a proper visual literacy necessitates that we take that into account. And we do appreciate your pointing out the tension here.
